I'm the modern day house wife. I have no children and no husband, but I do have a really fat cat (not her fault or mine) a wonderful, supportive PNC (partner n crime), lots of fabric, a sewing machine, paints and a computer to keep me really busy. I love to create, garden, lay in the sun (for hours), and I make lattes every morning. In the future, I'd love to have some kiddos to play with my fat cat, I'd love to live in the sunshine and I'd love to make a great living off of being creative. Not too much to ask right?! Time to prep your soil.

Our Garden 2009

We didn't have a garden last summer because we were moving. I hope this year we'll have one again. I miss gardening dearly.

Below are three simple steps we took to prepare our soil. If your ground isn't frozen, now would be a good time to prep your soil.

1. Take a soil test to test the PH and nutrient content of your soil. We would buy testers at our feed store. I know places like your hardware store should sell them as well.

2. Till your soil. We have it easy with our rototiller:) You want to till the soil to a depth of 12-14 inches. While you are doing this, incorporate your compost, manure and anything your soil test recommended you add to your soil.

3. If you do not have decent soil, try raised beds.

Now your soil is ready for planting!
