Most everything in this nursery besides the rug was second hand or from my own bedroom growing up. Big thanks to Heidi for the changing table and Tiff and JJ for the crib. I had the curtains from our Ferndale house and I made the duvet covers and pillows. This nursery was all about a budget, so I hope you can't tell too much!

The wood from the book shelves came from Casey's childhood bedroom shelves. The bird drawing above the book shelves was drawn by my Nona. And the pickle you see dangling is "super pickle" that Nono had hanging in their house while we were growing up. He loved pickle ball:)

I'm excited to receive the recipes. Such a great idea.

Tarah and Tiffany are throwing this shower for me. I am beyond thankful and feel very special that I have the friends I have.

Tiffany and I met when she was pregnant with Kennedy 6 years ago. She was about to pop and I had just started dating her best friend. I pretty much took Tiffany on as my best friend too:) Its safe to say that we love each other...like sisters, and we will be friends til we are old, wrinkly, senile and sharing a room at the nut house. She has been like a sister to my husband for years and years and I really admire her loyalty to him and now myself. I'm so excited to share our journey as mom's and raise our kids together. Like in this photo, life couldn't get much better!

Tarah and I go WAY back. We became good friends my sophomore year and her junior year. She knew I was nutty and although she hid it better, she was just as nutty as me. Fun people tend to gravitate towards each other:) We sat by each other in art class and drew and painted effortlessly while everyone else's work sucked to put it nicely! We boozed it up pool side at her house while her mom Connie made endless amounts of margarita's in their tiki bar. We really lived it up in our twenties while I was drugged up most of the time on pain killers and prednisone, but, Tarah always hung in there with me. Crazy and emotional me, Tarah was always there. Looking at her now I am so proud of her. She's turned her talent into an amazing career, married a handsome man and had a bouncy (drooly) baby boy. I'm so thankful we've stuck together all of these years.

These are little thank you gifts. BTW, if you need to find a way to use fabric scraps, these fabric garlands were really easy to make.

I hope to share photos of the shower when I return next week.

The Great Horned Owl

Like I said in the previous post, my Dad found this owl on the side of the road. Poor owl. Sadly hit by a car. I'm pretty certain it was a Great Horned Owl based on its size and color. We saved the beautiful wings hoping to find a good use for them. I found the perfect size shadow box at our local craft store and hot glue gunned one of the wings to the inside.

The Great Owl's wing has brought new life to the nursery.

The nursery is starting to come together. Little by little checking things off the list. Registering for this bambino was very difficult for me but I think I'm finally done. The whole time thinking that I have NO IDEA what I'm doing! So many choices, so many things the little guy or girl needs. I asked all of my mom friends a hundred questions and they all gave great advice. The advantages of having a baby after most of your friends have had theirs:)

Another project you can do with extras around the house. I used a doily from our wedding, twine, thread, lace and fabric remnants, feathers that I've had from an owl wing, and tourquise beads from broken necklaces.

The only part I had to purchase were the floral stems.

There are so many ways to make this but this was the easiest for me with what I had.

Step 1: twist floral stems together to make a thicker ring. I had a larger doily so I taped two together to form a circle.

Step 2: Wrap twine or whatever you have on hand like yarn or ribbon around the ring.

Step 3: I'm sure there are easier ways to do this next step but this is what I did to hold the doily in place... I used regular thread just because that's what I had on hand.

Its easier to attache opposite sides of the doily first then work around.

Step 4: Now the fun starts. Choose different textures of string, yarn, fabric, lace, whatever you have and go to town tying strips to your dream catcher. You can also sew on beads or parts of old jewelry to the strips.

I used feathers from a pair of owl wings I have. My dad found this owl on the side of the road. He or she was hit by a car and my Dad saved the beautiful wings. I hope to frame the one wing that isn't so beat up in a shadow box.

Another nursery project down!

For the step above, I ironed on Heat Bond to the back of the fabric, traced the figures, then cut out. So much easier to cut than to use just the fabric itself, but you can still just use the fabric. I then gluded them to a white piece of paper.

It was transported from the forest and planted in our yard and it grew quickly and was choking out our cherry tree. A light bulb came on when we saw it after we bought the house. "Its our Christmas tree!" Like this moment on Christmas Vacation:

Casey was out at 9 in the morning with his chainsaw...

It looks the perfect size doesn't it?

Perfect size until we got it in the house and it was 11ft tall, huge and not really looking like the tree I dreamed of. I was waiting for the squirrel to jump out of it at any moment...

11 strands of lights and two blown fuses later, we have our Christmas tree!

The tree now takes up the entire back part of or house, its awkward and hilarious, filled with old, hand me down ornaments.

She let me pick out the colors for each animal and could not understand why I would pick such odd colors for animals! She said the deer should be brown just like a deer. I said, no, its going to be yellow!!!! DEAL! We had a small tiff. I posted these awhile back and now have a purpose to use them for the nursery.

This method was the perfect way to hang them and please my husband. Cut paper to the size of the frame and tape on the wall first before committing to the nail. I saw this on pinterest.

Then nail through the paper on the marked spot. Perfecto!

A little peak at the crib painted. Turned out great! Thanks to Grandma for creating such beautiful art for the nursery and putting up with my color choices!

Holiday Greetings to You!

A tribute to my Grandpa Bud this morning.
